Windsor sits at the head of the Avon, at the eastern gate of the Valley, and it has an unusual housing profile because of one night in October 1897 — the fire that took out most of the town. What went back up afterwards is a dense band of late-Victorian and Edwardian houses, and a great many of them are still on their original bones.

That means cast-iron drain stacks that have been quietly rusting from the inside for a hundred and twenty years, galvanised supply lines narrowed to a pinhole, and water services running out to the street with no record of where they actually go. It's exactly the situation our camera and sonar equipment is for: we find the line before anybody's lawn gets opened up.

Heat, and the Avon

Older Windsor homes tend to be hot-water heated, and a fair number are running boilers well past the age where parts are easy to come by. We service, repair and replace them — and we'd much rather do that in September than be pulling into your driveway at midnight in a January cold snap.

Head out past the causeway and Lake Pisiquid and the picture changes: rural West Hants properties on drilled wells, where the work is as much water treatment and pump service as it is plumbing. Iron, hardness and sulphur are all common enough around here that we test the water before we size anything.
