Berwick calls itself the Apple Capital of Nova Scotia, and the orchards around it aren't decoration — they're the local economy. That gives the western Valley a different job list from Wolfville or New Minas. Alongside ordinary household work, a serious share of what we do out here is agricultural: barn and outbuilding water supply, livestock watering, frost protection on lines that run through unheated buildings, and propane heat for farm structures.

Farm plumbing has to survive things household plumbing never sees — freeze cycles, heavy equipment, and being a long way from the nearest shut-off when something lets go. It gets specified accordingly.

Wells, water and treatment

Get outside the town and most properties are on drilled wells, which makes water quality a live question rather than a theoretical one. Heat, a long way from town

Rural western Valley properties lean heavily on propane and oil-fired hot water heating, and the distances mean a breakdown in February is a more serious matter than it would be in the middle of Kentville. We service and replace boilers, run and certify propane gas lines, and service propane equipment — and we push hard for an autumn service, because prevention out here is worth a great deal more than a midnight call-out.
